Finance and Accounts
The income of the Parish Council is derived primarily from a precept, though additional income is received from cemetery and allotment fees and rents. Unlike County and District Councils, Parish and Town Councils receive no money from central government, nor do we receive anything from the National Non Domestic Rates (the business rates levied on shops and business premises).
The 'precept' is levied by the Parish Council on the Huntingdonshire District Council and represents the sum that the Parish Council considers that it needs to enable it to operate for the year. This precept is added to those levied by the Cambridgeshire County Council, Huntingdonshire District Council, Cambridgeshire Police Authority and Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, and in total equate to the amount of Council Tax payable by residents for the year.
For the year 2008/2009, the Parish Council's precept was £46,800 and represented a Council Tax Band D charge of £79.59 for the year, based on 588 Band D properties. Council has decided not to increase its precept for 2009/2010, so it remains at £46,800, though, because of an increase in properties in the parish to 592, it now represents £79.05 per Band D property. For 2009/2010 the precept has been increased to £48,204, an increase of 3%.
